At BORÉALDESIGN we pay careful attention to every detail throughout the manufacturing process.

All of our kayaks featuring a rudder are equipped with Spectra® rope. This rope, which is very resistant to breakage, has many advantages over stainless steel cables; it is light and quiet. Corrosion hazards decrease, as well as fees associated with, and the time spent on, kayak maintenance. All our rudders are made of anodized aluminium.

Our kayaks are also equipped with an adjustable backrest and a padded seat cover.

Composite kayaks
The three-stage technique used to bond hulls is unique to BORÉALDESIGN kayaks. First, overlapping sections are glued together. Then the interior seam is sealed with a strip of fibreglass. Finally, the exterior seam is sealed with finishing tape and coated in resin for a strong, visually pleasing appearance.

Bulkheads are manufactured, installed and sealed with fibreglass, increasing the structural integrity of the kayak.

Polyethylene kayaks
Attention to detail throughout the manufacturing process is the hallmark of our reputation. The highly buffed surfaces of our moulds impart a remarkable quality finish to our kayaks. They are assembled with the same quality components used in our composite line of kayaks. Bulkheads are bonded and sealed.

The Inukshuk and Fjord models come standard with thigh braces. Thigh braces are also offered as an option for other models.

Rudder

  • Sturdy support preventing blade distortion under the effect of waves.
  • Deep blade for fast, efficient directional changes.

  • Elastic securing the blade during transportation.
  • Top cleat to pull in a straight line.

Access to gear

Spacious access to gear

Rubber joint protected from sunlight and bonded to the hatch cover, rather than the hatch, to avoid wear and tear.

Spacious central access to tandem models with rings to tie down gear.

Cord attached to hatch covers for more safety.

BORÉALDESIGN keeps innovating!

In the past two years, we have been testing with success a Spectra® rope to control the rudder. This rope, which is very resistant to breakage, has many advantages over stainless steel cables; it is light and quiet. Corrosion hazards decrease, as well as fees associated with, and the time spent on, kayak maintenance.

Reflective lifeline
Many of our kayaks have a lifeline installed on their perimeter. This year, we will use a rope with a reflective strand that will improve craft visibility.

Our Revolutionary Skeg System
The mechanism of our skeg system is simple, efficient and easy to use. A control knob adjusts the depth of the anodized aluminium blade. It features six adjustments (0 to 5) corresponding to angles of 0 to 50 degrees. The skeg box is specifically designed to reduce the level of intrusion into the rear compartment and therefore, minimizing any loss of storage capacity. Click here for more details!

Great Looking and Efficient

Designed by BORÉALDESIGN, a waterproof brass fitting for where the Spectra® line or the stainless steel rudder cable exits the kayak. Intended to eliminate leaks, this accessory enhances the appearance of our kayaks for an impeccable quality finish.
